James Brunot and family papers, 1827-1877.

Letters from James M. Brunot to his family in Pittsburgh concern the death and estate of James' brother, Felix; the possible move of the state capitol from New Orleans to Baton Rouge; property values and railroad development in Baton Rouge; universal education in the United States; and Louisiana inheritance laws, among other things. A printed letter (1873), in French, from the General Union of the French Societies of Mutual Aid in the United States to former president of the Third Republic of France Adolphe Thiers supports a republican form of government in France. Miscellaneous items include religious cards and issues of the "Monthly elevator" (1876-1877) and "Good news."
